FHR has been working with Hyde Square Task Force’s (HSTF) Rookie Runners all year and the event we’ve all been waiting for is about to happen. It’s HSTF’s community multi-day 5k run/walk, sponsored in part by Martha Eliot Health Center and Boston Children's Hospital! A multi-day 5k run/walk? What’s that, you may be asking. Well, it's new and it's very cool. It’s not the boring old 5k race that every organization puts on, where BAA runners show up and take the top three spots. No, this is a community event highlighting how hard the Rookie Runners have worked this year to improve themselves as people and as athletes, increasing awareness of how much HSTF has done to change the culture of the Hyde Square/Jackson Square area, and bringing community members together to show how great community running can be. Four different runs, led by the Rookie Runners, will be happening throughout the week, highlighting areas that have changed dramatically over the last fifteen years.
Then, on Sunday, the Rookies themselves will be running their own 5k, which will be followed by performances by HSTF musicians and dancers in the HSTF parking lot. Massachusetts House Representative Jeffrey Sanchez will be in attendance, sending the Rookie Runners off at the start of the race, and an announcer will be present to note the times and place of finishers (prizes are given to the top male and female runner, so the competition should be fierce).
You can register for the event at by clicking here: REGISTER FOR HSTF 5K.
We hope to see you out there. It’s going to be an phenomenal event that we look forward to taking part in year after year!
